Within those past years Kent has been actively in- volved in all areas of the school. He has gained the respect of his fellow classmen and under classmen as a spiritual leader. He feels it is the Lord's will for him to go to Bob Jones University and major in music. Kent's favorite verse is Psalms 27:1-3. Cindy Escue Cindy Escue has come to Silver State since the seventh grade. Cindy has been involved in many areas of the school, espe- cially in the pep club. Her sweet attitude to- wards everything is al- ways appreciated by everyone. She plans to goto a Christian col- lege and find the Lord's will for her life there. Cindy's favorite verse is Ester 4:16. 43 Christian Leadership Kent Chambers, Debbie Schaarer Most Likely to Succeed Brent Smith, Shalyn Bower Most Musical X41-I Charles Grinnell, Anne Zellner Most Consistent Testimony Wade Whiteley, Linda Estes Most Intelligent Ed Simons, Kathy Kleeberger 2 K If' , ff r Most Artistic 'W 5 ato. Most Athletic Dan Sutherland, Shalyn Bower r SJ EMGRY GF R. G LE GLESSNER On December 8, 1978, Mr. Galen Glessner was taken home to be with the Lord. Mr. Glessner lived his life to the glo- ry of God. It is often said that he lived to serve others. Looking at his life we can see his desire to help others. It was soon after Mr. Glessner's salvation that he gave up re- ceiving his doctor's degree, which he was not far from, to follow God's call to full- time service. After pastoring several churches, Mr. Glessner and his wife felt God's call to go to Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, Mr. Glessner and his wife taught in E1press Mennen, a gov- ernment school for girls. Through the Glessner's ministry many girls were saved. Following his service in Ethiopia, Mr. Glessner pastored and helped start several churches. He worked in many Christian schools and taught missionary children in Miamy, Niger. In 1971, Mr. Glessner and his wife came to be with us here at Silver State. His life was a blessing to many students and facul- ty. Mr. Glessner was always willing to help in any area. When help was needed one could always depend on Mr. Glessner. He has spent 28 years teaching in various schools. He was in his eighth year here at Silver State. Mr. Glessner taught general science, physics, chemistry and Bible. 45,13 ,. The high school spent the first four days of school in the mountains. It was a chance for ev eryone to get back together again .Gi 5 s 4 T r l tl ffjft ' rx VW b.x -VR F tg. The retreat was a time of chal- lenges, challenges between the white team and the blue team. And spiritual challenges were giv- en to everyone by Evangelist Rich Kerns. It is early - 6:15 A.M. - and dark. The Silver State parking lot is qui- et. Only the birds are chirping. The sun is still asleep. No one is stirring. But, wait a minute! What's this? Two headlights ap- pear - and two more - and, it's incredible, two more. Cars are filling the parking lot. Gasoline fumes sear the nostrils. Laughter suddenly ripples through the air. Why it's the Silver State Patriot Marching Band. At this time? Yes, but where are they going? They are going to Fort Morgan. They are going to Ar- vada. They are going to Lakewood on Parade. They are going to Greeley. They are going downtown to the Parade of lights. They are going to the Silver State football game. And they are winning. Winning, you say? Why they are winning first place at Fort Morgan! They are win- ning a trophy in Lakewood and second place at Arva- da's Harvest Festival. And, did you know they received straight superior ratings last year at Greeley? What's that? No! Where? El Paso! How? Maybe, who knows? But who are the pretty girls in the blue outfits? They even have a color guard. That does it - Iet's go join the band! Walt a minute. There they go, wave to the yellow buses. The birds are singing. The sun is just beginning to shine!
