spew The undefeated 1947 48 Golden Eagle football squad was one of the schcol's first in several years The team was a speedy, hard blocking and tackling aggregat1on that went through a tough schedule of e1ght games four of which were played on their newly li hted gridiron The Eagle opened their season with a 6 O victory uver lcLouth, a Jefferson County opponent, on Sept mber l9 on the Laker's field Heller went over from the five yard strip with the lone score of the game The Silver Lake club showed more offensive in their second game of the season, winning 33-0 over Alma in their first Shlpnee On Friday, October 5, the Laker's won their closest game of the year by defeating Onaga 7 6, on the muddy Onaga field, Silver Lake's squad contlnued the1r winning streak by defeating their rival town of Roseville 24 0 October 10 bn the Bulldogs gridiron A R08l11116 kick, blocked by Lonnie Golden and fallen upon over the goal l1ne rave the Eagles their first touchdown early in the game Ova Harden got away for a 40 yard run ir the second quarter to make the count 12 O at halftime Ray Weller opened the second half with a 20 yard touchdown run and Lonnie Golden passed to Bill Boyd to win 24 O This victory gave the Laker's two league wins Playlng what was probably the league championship game, the Golden Eagles defeated Alta Vista 12 O, October 17 on their lighted Q e and labaunsee League struggle on the llg1e's turf, September 26.
