FHA A newly organized club :Ln Silver Lake High is the Future Homemalaers of America This is a national organization for hlgh school girls who have had some work in hane economics Thirty five girls have joined the club this year The constitution was accepted in October by a unanimous vote of the group A committee headed by Betty Harris prepared the constitution for the Club Instead of dues from each member, it was decided to have the concession stand at several football and basketball games to pay the dues of club members and the expenses of the Club The colors of the Club are red and white with a red rose being the flower The Chapter Adviser is the Home Economics teacher, lliss Hope latts Each Chapter also has a Chapter Mother who is a woman in the culmunity that is interested in Home Economics llrs Albert Shafer is the mother who helps the Silver Lake F H A The program for the year was based upon building for tmmrrow through building ourselves our homes, school betterment our organization, our commxmity, state and nation and fun One of the first projects of the year was to entertain at an All School fall party The group played a few games, danced, and enjoyed the refreshments Everyone ate doughnuts, popcorn balls and drank cider before going home Decorations were in keeping with the season There were bales of hay, corn shocks and streamers of crepe paper in brown and orange Oscar, the skull of some prehistoric bull, had a place of honor It is hoped that this spring it will be possible to have a banquet for the mothers Plans have been made forma W P A we pay all party to be held for the boy friends of Club Members Other projects of value to the school are being planned such as a spring clean up day and the apprcpreation of the money made -at the con cessions to buy a useful gift for the school or the Home Economic de parhnent This year's program has consisted of a variety of topics interest ing to home economists One of the most popular ones was a talen show Lt this program Marjorie and Marvalie Tibbs twirled, Marilyn Maupin played a piano solo, landa Conaway sang a solo, Barbara and Betty llitchell sang a duet and Kiss Miller talked and showed some of her antiques another program, Louise Martinek wrote a short skit on manners that was presented to an interested group Marcia Brooks portrayed 'Be Wrong' while June Snavely was her sister, 'Be Right Norma Kippes helped by playing the mother One program consisted of a movie on baking principles. Last fall ten girls who were Future Homemakers and Miss Watts, attended the district conference at the Highland Park High School in Topeka The program was interesting and the trip was fun Mr Reeder took the girls to the Conference in the bus It is hoped that some time soon degrees will be given to the girls who have worked in the Organization in the doorway.
