BASKETBALL HI-LITES CONT. Downing first round byes, following their perfect league record the Silver Lake first and second teams started play in the semi-finals of the County League Tournament at Roseville on February 20, by defeating both Rossville teams. The 'B' team played first and had easy going in winning 42-15. Ober- helman scored 15 points to lead the scoring. The 'A' team game was much tougher with the final score being 30-17. The Eagles couldn't seem to find the hoop and were pressed hard to win. Maupin scored 7 points for the Lakers. Silver Lake closed its basketball schedule with a double victory, lifting the season's record to 17 victories in 20 games. On February 27, the Eagle 'A' team whipped Alma's Blue Devils 30-18 on the Silver Lake court. Silver Lake's 'B' team also walked away from the Alma 'B' team to the tune of 36-13. The last game of the 1947-1948 season was played on the Berryton rectangle on February 28. The Lake's 'A' team rompped over the Berryton 'A team 50-22. The Eagle 'B' team also beat the Berryton 'B' team 38-13. BASKETBALL TROPHIES The 'A' team won the League Championship Trophy, while the second team glso won first in their division In the County Tournament the 'A' team won first place and the 'B' team placed second The first team trophy is every bit of sixteen inches high A dark rectang ular prism of walnut wood fourteen inches h1gh is the centerpiece This center piece is crowned by a six inch gold figure of a basketball player It has also a gold plate with the following engraving on it, 'First Place, Shawnee League and it is topped by a gold star On each side of the centerpiece are light colored pieces of wood which curve into long strips streaming into the base All this stands on a three inch block of dark walnut wood with a gold plate on its front with a one inch lighter base under it The second team trophy is also as pretty as the first team's Standing about fifteen inches high, this trophy has a plain round grooved piece of dark walnut wood as its centerpiece On top of this column is a gold figure of a basketball player which stands about four inches high The base is round and is made of lighter colored wood On this base is another round piece of dark walnut with a gold plate that has the following inscription upon its 'First Place, Shawnee League, Second Team The trophy for winning second place in the 'B' division of the League Tournament was won by Silver Lake. This trophy stands about ten inches high and has a gold figure of a basketball player on the top The base is made of black plastic with a gold plate on its front with the engraving, 'Shawnee League, B Tourney, Second '48 ' upon it Winning the championship at the County Tournament at Rossville, gave the Silver Lake 'A' team another very attractive trophy This trophy, standing nineteen inches high, has a crown of gold with a basketball player on a center piece of dark walnut wood On each side of this rounded centerpiece are pieces of walnut wood that taper into the base The base is a curved inch piece of dark walnut On this base are two gold eagles and in the center another gold basketball player's figure There is a gold plate on the front of the center piece upon which is inscribed, 'Shawnee League Tourney, First '48 ' WALSWORTH G BITH S USA .
