In ApppeciAtion As the last pages go to press and the staff members breathe a sigh of relief I stop to wonder how we ever finished on time. Certamly one reason we made it was the help and co-operation we received from many people on and off campus. As my last official duty, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them individually. Without the experienced guidance of our adviser, Mr. Richard B. Smith, this book could not hove existed. He patiently spent numerous hours of hard work in order to help complete this book of Spartan memories. My special gratitude goes to my staff, who have put in many hours of hard work. Judy Litten, my Assistant Editor, was second in command and helped the staff in many different ways. Copy Editor Judy Johns and the people who worked with her, Kathy Goble, Elizabeth Page, Dennis Borell, Mike Green, and Dave Stouffer, had one of the most difficult jobs in completing the book. With the artistic talents of Susan Neill, Layout Editor, and Sharon Watson, Art Editor, designs for the book were easily completed. This couldn ' t hove been done without help from Donna Daniels, Nancy Hall, Tom Cooper, Hal Gilbert, and Barb Scott. I would next like to thank Phyllis West, Sports Editor, and her staff, Donna Bauman, Gerri Fitzgerald, and Paul Sapienza, for doing a fabulous job in putting together the sports section. Where would we be without the help of our Head Photographer, Jim Henkel, and Photo Editor, Kathy Hubbling? They worked many extra hours with photographic assistance from Richard Freymond and Paul Johnson. Of course we couldn ' t possibly have done without our Business Manager, Carol Wright, who was assisted by Martha Reed. The two of them, working as a team, took charge of all the finances for the book. This was a gigantic job in itself. The administration and faculty both deserve recognition for all the work they have contributed in trying to aid the staff. There ore Mr. John Chickanzeff, Mr. Robert Wolstoncroft, Mr. Peter DeVries, Mr. Orval McLellan, Mr. Arthur Harshbarger, Mr. John Landis, Mr. Robert Eicholtz, Mrs. Cecilia Throp, Mrs. Mary Avilez, Miss Veria Bateman, Mrs. Ruth Blake, Mrs. Dorothy Brewer, Mrs. Ruth Hughes, Mr. Mahlon Conly, Mr. Len Craven, Mr. Robert Dugard, Mr. Leo Fessenden, Mrs. Imogene Forker, Mr. Charles Harris, Mrs. Frances Huessenstamm, Mr. Lester Hufford, Miss Marilyn Kahl, Mr. Orville Hinshaw, Mr. Robert Laidlaw, Mr. Paul Lugo, Mr. Robert Minier, Mr. James Naughton, Mr. Fred Osmond, Mr. Don Poucher, Mr. Don Stillwell, Mr. Daniel Swift, Mrs. Patricia Thomas, Miss Louise Van Dommelen, Mr. Paul Ward, and Mr. Joseph Wolfe. All the secretaries, Mrs. Kay Sponsler, Mrs. Helen Bell, Mrs. Pauline Isbell, Mrs. Charlene Aldrich, Mrs. Jessie Ann Dennis, Mrs. Terry Dewyer, Miss Bea Pride, Mrs. Marian Christie, Mrs. Zena Hill, Mrs. Frances Kragness, and Mrs. Lynn Norwalk, have helped us tremendously. They were always around, ready to assist us when we needed help. 1 can ' t forget the maintenance workers: Mr. Bob Wortman, Mr. William Jarross, Mrs. Alma Stinnett, Mr. Harold Course, Mr. Orrin Brown, Mr. Jack Hauter, Mr. Howard Edge, Mr. Fred Sanders, Mr. Ray Meunier, Mr. James Greth, Mr. Calvin Rhode, and Mr. Wilson Spanks, who contributed their efforts. Last, but not least, I would like to thank the off-cam.pus people for their help. Watson Studios and their photographers, Mr. Robert Watson, Mr. Paul Morris, Mr. William Fisher, and Mr. Orin Van Dyke, took many pictures for the book. The S. K. Smith Company was responsible for the covers, while the Taylor Publishing Company printed the book for us. I would also like to thank the Thomas Brothers Map Co. for letting us use their map of Whittier on the end-sheets of the book. The Whittier Public Library, for letting us use their picture of John. Greenleaf Whittier, should also be thanked. Thanks, also to the many businessmen who purchased advertising in the book this year. Finally, thanks to you, the Student Body, for making this book possible with all of your co-operation and participation in the many activities. Sincerely, OhMLlj f Zy0 yi ;ZA . :J Editor-in-chief 1963 Oracle TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY 199
