Athlete of the yem For the second year in a row, Sierra ' s coaching staff has selected an athlete whom they feel has displayed outstanding achievennent, a satisfactory scholastic standing, and a good record of sportsnnanship, and who thus has earned the honor of being named Athlete of the Year. This year, a desire to learn and on intense competitive spirit have combined to produce an outstanding athlete who is well qualified for this honor. Although his athletic career began much the same js most athletes, it wasn ' t long before his ability began to stand out. In football he gained a long list of honors. In both his junior and senior years he was named to the All-District Team and was a unanimous All-Suburban League choice. As a senior, he was honored as the league ' s Lineman of the Year. To climax his football career at Sierra, he was chosen a member of the large school, AII-C.I.F. Football Team. This outstanding player also excels in wrestling. In his last two years at Sierra he was the Suburban League Champion in his weight division and both years advanced into the C.I.F. wrestling finals. It is seldom that an individual gains so many honors. Those who know him, however, realize that if any one person deserves these accolades, it is LARRY LOPEZ, Athlete of the Year, 1963. 178
