This year ' s cross country team began the season with few returning varsity members, but in spite of this lock of experience, the Sierra runners completed a very successful year and went on to capture third place in the Suburban League competition, second place in the double A, C.I.F. preliminaries, and eighth place in C.I.F. finals, making it the first Sierra cross country team to ever go to the C.I.F. finals. In the last two C.I.F. events of the season, senior Lewis Jones led Sierra ' s runners, setting a new school record of 9:03 in the preliminary races, and going on to capture ninth place in the finals. Dave Ruyle, Richard Joyce, and Joe Moreno also distinguished themselves as outstanding runners and will return next year to form a port of the nucleus of the Sierra cross country team. pROSh MR.
