Fads Thar Lived In 1960 New books, new classes and new teach- ers arent the only thing that make up a school year, Magazines shopping centers and drug stores are among the monopoliz- ers of the back to school days. Every year each one of us blows our hord earned may be? on new clothes for school and this year was no exception. This year some of the in things on the fashion scene were- the suede saddle shoes the double belt the blazer the nor- raw shirt tweed pants and the small col- lared shirt. Many of the fashions and hair- styles seemed to have taken a step back- ward roward the earlier part of this century. But fashion wasnt the only other thing new this year. Jogging and rollerskoting although not brand new to the scene were taken up with a new flair. Jogging is notjust for the track stars anymore. Many Ridgers have taken it up just for personal pleasure and exercise. Senior Nathan Bland on irreg- ularjogger says he jogs when he feels out of shape and needs some exercise. l keeps you limber. Rollerskating came back from the roller rinks ofthe Fifties to the sidewalks of the Eighties. lt was not only a new way of transportation but it was great exercise walking! Of course along with the fads and fash- ions that started there were those that died like gaucho pants and the crew cut. These werejust some of them that lived this year. ENJOYING THE EXCERCISE he gets Bruce Brasius jogs around Butler University, JOE STILWELL AND David Guernsey save their bus mon- ey by rollerskating to school.
