HOME EC TEACHES PRACTICAL SKILLS Separation of sexes in the Home Economics Department's Foods classes became extinct this year. More men than in any previous years were electing to take both the basic and ad- vanced Foods classes. ln addi- tion to improving food prepara- tion abilities, instructors en- couraged development of those personality skills most valuable in food service employment. A December Principal's luncheon held in Charity Dye Library gave the Department's students an opportunity to exercise their ac- cumulated skills in food service and preparation. While the Foods classes were absorbed in the culinary arts, clothing students displayed their accomplishments at the faculty Christmas Tea and competed for prizes at a spring style show sponsored by the Indiana Federation of Clubs. STUDENTS LEARN INDUSTRY DF TODAY The biggest news in the lndus- trial Arts Department this year was the shuffle in personnel. Mr. Greg Allen, a Ball State graduate, was the new woods instructor. Mr. Ford Fiatcliff moved in to take over the Graphic Arts lab. Although the program at Shor- tridge was non-vocational, the instructors focused on trying to train the students in the basic knowledge of industrial processes in our society, ac- cording to Mr. Ratcliff. Aside from providing a practi- cal educational experience, the Industrial Arts Department served every student at Shor- tridge. Printing students put out The Echo, as well as tickets and programs, using conven- tional and advanced tech- niques. Mark White Wllbert Hampton George Richardson and Kenny Jackson industriouslv construct their group project. 26 I
