NATURALISTS IVIEND-SCIENTISTS CALCULATE if an-mf Many Changes occured in the Science Department this year, and not just chemical ones. A new teacher Mrs. Lyons was added to the staff. The Science Technology class was ex- panded to a full year. This class, along with the Naturalist Club, repaired the inner Court- yard as a science project. The Naturalist Club was sponsored by Mrs. Sue Brown. Another addition was the purchase of 10 of the 30 calculators projected for the Science Department. According to Miss Van Horn, the purpose of the calculators was to give students more time to study and less time figuring out answers. John Easley, Helmut Schwarzin, and Ben Byrne discuss their fruit fly cul- tures in Mrs. Ballows Science I class. gt V 'J-r Thomas Roberts gives cautious attention to his precise Patti Blackburn WHfCh9S and helps WYSUH Murray decent the measurement. HOME EC TEACHES PRACTICAL SKILLS Separation of sexes in the Home Economics Department's Foods classes became extinct this year. More men than in any previous years were electing to take both the basic and ad- vanced Foods classes. ln addi- tion to improving food prepara- tion abilities, instructors en- couraged development of those personality skills most valuable in food service employment. A December Principal's luncheon held in Charity Dye Library gave the Department's students an opportunity to exercise their ac- cumulated skills in food service and preparation. While the Foods classes were absorbed in the culinary arts, clothing students displayed their accomplishments at the faculty Christmas Tea and competed for prizes at a spring style show sponsored by the Indiana Federation of Clubs.
