Business Dept. is on the move! The business department had a new teacher this year. She is Mrs. Twyla Taylor and she teaches business machines, typing and general business. Three new courses were offered, record-keeping, business opportunities and business machines. These are all one semester courses. Several new calculators were added to the equipment in the business department this year. Distributive Education, which is in its third year, is a cooperative work program in which seniors may participate. The student takes a one period related class in the morning and in the afternoon works at a business, usually in the areas of retailing and marketing. The student must get the job on his own merits and he is paid for his work. He gets one class credit for the job. The student should take salesmanship and marketing before entering D.E. The program is open to both men and women. A program which is new this year is Cooperative Office Education. This is open to senior girls who have taken 3 to 4 semesters of typing and have some clerical practice. Shorthand is optional. In C.O.E. the girls work at an office in the afternoon. They also receive credit and are paid. Gwendolyn Harris shows skill and deep concen tration while practicing in her typing class. Proper posture insures accuracy as Patricia Wilson rechecks the problem before pressing any keys on a Comptometer. 28

Phys. Ed. offers fun and exercise The sometimes dull and boring health and P.E. classes have added a new zing this year-a new curriculum. The new curriculum is designed to make the courses more meaningful to the student. Drug education classes also benefited from being connected with the Indianapolis school system drug department. Through this affiliation. the classes have access to better equipment and a more thorough program. As in all departments. the P.E. department was hit by a wave of new teachers this semester. Mr. Wright and Mrs. Wisdom were new to the school, while Mr. Boarman was new to the department. Mr. Charles Fitzgerald. department head, was pleased with the present changes, but planned further innovations. Andy Cobb shows how to build better muscles by pressing a weight in a boys gym class.
