Above-Gym Classes are not all work as Donald Crumpton gets ready to receive a serve from an invisible partner. If you can type you can learn to set print! New courses, new teachers and a new foods lab added spice to the Home Economics Dept. Mrs. Mary Davis headed the department which had as newcomers Wanda Wade and Iudith Stimson. 8.,......u:ulhs With needless flying and machines humming Shortridge girls turned out outfits for every occasion. A new class, designated as Clothing 6, was offered to any second-semester senior girl who was interested in sewing, but had not had any previous experience. If you can type, you can set print. That's almost all it requires to set print on Shortridge's autotape computerized phototypesetter. This is the only machine of its kind in any Indianapolis high school graphics lab. General Industries was offered to freshmen to give them an idea of the whole spectrum of industries covered at SHS. Brad West, new to the department, helped teach the course which involved six weeks of electricity, graphic arts, woods, metals, mechanical drawing and power mechanics. at .ig Top-Ronnie Ellis and Dereck Anderson make a hammer and a screwdriver while working with the power drill. Above-Mr. Coulon explains the offset printing press to his students. The ECHO is now printed on the modern offset press. Phys. Ed. offers fun and exercise The sometimes dull and boring health and P.E. classes have added a new zing this year-a new curriculum. The new curriculum is designed to make the courses more meaningful to the student. Drug education classes also benefited from being connected with the Indianapolis school system drug department. Through this affiliation. the classes have access to better equipment and a more thorough program. As in all departments. the P.E. department was hit by a wave of new teachers this semester. Mr. Wright and Mrs. Wisdom were new to the school, while Mr. Boarman was new to the department. Mr. Charles Fitzgerald. department head, was pleased with the present changes, but planned further innovations. Andy Cobb shows how to build better muscles by pressing a weight in a boys gym class.
