Art, Music students color N-. ,gif 'i' --3' their world The Music Department, under the baton of Mr. Behling, went full blast this year. One good note was Mr. Pat Webb our guitarist-in-residence. He held his guitar workshops in the Music Department. A new project, undertaken by the department, was the sale of season tickets for all musical productions. This was met with approval by parents. Mr. Stomps conducted the A Cappella Choir and the Madrigals. Mr. Carter was the leader of The New Establishment, and Mr. Madjeski conducted the Drchestra. The Band was lead by the head of the department, Mr. Behling. The Art Department had a new head this year, Mr. Kantor. The only new staff member was Mr. Ian Fraser. He taught classes in Origami and Macrame. He brought with him a different approach to art with the use of notebooks. This year the Herron Art Museum offered two scholarships to two Shortridge sttidtwits: Oliver Eubanks and Mike Bryant. A Cappella Choir members sight read to pre- pare for concerts and the ChoraJ Classic. Vocational tr inin r r ' 1 ln the Home Economics Department there were three main fields of endeavor, foods, clothing and family living. The two new courses which were recently added were family care and home nursing. Two new teachers became members of the department this year. They were lVlrs. Geiman and lVlrs. Gatton, who taught clothing and the new area called pre-vocational. Advanced classes gave dinners and formal teas for the faculty. Their main objective was to learn to plan, cook, prepare and serve large quantity cooking. In Foods I and ll they learned family meal preparations. Students in the home nursing course learned management, child care and how to budget money. This year, our lndustrial Art Depart- ment initiated a new Vocational Printing Course. The purpose of this course was to prepare industrial arts students for future job opportunities in the printing fields by teaching the correct procedures for job applications. Two new teachers were added to the lndustrial Arts Department. They were lVlr. Locke, who taught woodwork and metalwork and lVlr. Vllemple, who directed fyyffl the prevocational classes. In the Graphic Arts Department students learn how to run the printing equipment. Skills are learned when they print the Echo. With books open and paper and pencil in hand, Mike lVlcAndrews concentrates deeply as he works on his assignment in his drafting class Vickie Upshaw, a freshman home economics student, diligently works on sewing the latest fashions in lVlrs.
