Independent Study: new in B English dept. This year, independent study was of- fered and was the major change in curri- culum in the English Department. How- ever, it was made available only for elec- tive English classes. Senior literature classes used the actual Middle English dialect while reciting the Canterbury Tales . The Advanced Com- position Class innovated by trying their hand at writing advertising copy. Freshmen and sophomores had their English classes incorporated into the new Innovative Program. Some found them- selves benefited by more than one English class. Miss Susan Burton returned as a new staff teacher after being-a student teacher here last year. Other new teachers in- cluded: Mrs. Slaton, Miss Butan, Mrs. Ooley, Miss Nay, Mrs. McMilIian, Miss Life, Miss Lassam, Mrs. Hurt, Mr. Dem- mary, Mr. Budden, Mrs. Buckner and Mrs. Beard. These were added to the depart- ment to aid in the team teaching program. Steve Toumey and Peggy Hudson help one another to decide on a book they are to read for English. They can choose from a variety of different, new books. Tom Beck seems to be holding his cIassmate's attention in Mrs. Schumacher's Five G. English class, while explaining a famous quote. f i 2 s 5 5 , Tk' I . i 1' X fr I' ., 'xi' 1 1 .lu W X -lb 2' ff!! H .Wi
