X- Q ag 5ff.ss f, ':' - Mi Wei QAQQQW Math Pupils Learn Basics Cf Computers Computer Math was added to the Mathematics Department this past year. The course, taught by Mr. Ron Freeland, utilized a computer pro- vided by the Indiana Bell Company. Students electing to take Computer Math were allowed to practice opera- tion of the machine during their free periods. Calculus students learned advanced mathematic techniques under the guidance of Principal R. Lloyd Green. Many Geometry students dis- covered that knowing a square from a triangle iust wasn't enough. Students not only had to find answers, they were also expected to prove them! Learning the rules of Plane Geometry was the first task for these students. Algebra l-IV students were in- structed on everything from the His- tory of Algebra in their first semester, to the use of the slide in Algebra Ill. Another brain strainer offered by the Math Department was a combined course of College Algebra and Trigo- nometry, called Pre-Calculus. Attempting to solve an algebraic problem on the board, Sophomore Michael Jordan ponders over a possible answer to an equation. l 2 5

l i l if Scientific Activities Enhance School Year Being in one of Mr. King s Physics classes can lead to strange things like dropping balls out of win- dows Greg Strand prepares to let go as the class observe this motionfrate experiment. Dropping bowling balls out of win- dows was iust one of the many proi- ects of students taking Physics under the guidance of Mr. Don King, Science Department head. The King also had a hand in several other scientific experiments. Among the many ad- venturous Physics-Chemistry proiects was a behavioral study of liquid nitro- gen. This experiment resulted in the shattering of several rubber balls. Many Chemistry students recalled that their most memorable classroom experience was filling the third floor corridor with a pungent odor. The creation of organic compounds was coupled with a nostril-opening aroma that was shared by everyone who happened to be on the same side of the building. Squeamish Biology students were the subject of many after-school con- versations. Dissection was a big part of the course for most students. Some professed to find it quite repulsive. Of course, there were always those iron-stomached students who never flinched at the sight of blood. Studying the anatomy of a grasshopper gives Biology student Matt Donnegan insight into the complex structure of Acrididaes. fl r' ,,V.,. 1 , ,.
