OFFICER STEPHEN HORWITZ RECEIVES an honor award from an American Legion representative. ROTC Excels in Qcholarship, Leadership Self-improvement and a sense of responsibility, coupled with a basic knowledge of military life, are the goals of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. Under the leadership of Master Sergeant Jerome Baker, ROTC cadets are taught citizenship and develop leadership traits. In addition the cadets study marks- manship, first aid, courtesy and cus- toms of the army, and rules and regu- lations. Advanced classes concentrate on small unit tactics, map reading, and warfare. Besides military studies, ROTC participants maintained such tradi- tions as standing guard at the Open House, Family Frolic, Junior Vaude- ville, and Senior Class Play as well as taking part in the Veterans ' Day Pa- rade and the Federal Inspection and having their Military Ball. BAND MEMBERS TAKE a breather after strenuous rehearsal.

Coordination Qtressed; Students Exercise, Play One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four is probably what you will hear as you enter a physical educa- tion class. As girls slim down and develop their figures, boys concen- trate on muscular development and coordination. By utilizing apparatus and participation in dances, relays and exercises, students derive enjoy- ment as well as fitness. Hard work, sportsmanship are given in exchange for physical fitness, good grades, and squad victories. During the winter, skills such as rope climbing and tumbling are learned by the boys. Daily basketball practice supplements apparatus in the girls ' gym. In the spring, the boys and girls abandon the gym for the outdoors as they participate in base- ball, kickball, and track. POINTING TOES and standing straight, girls BUILDING UP good shooting arms, boys throw basketballs in gym.

Pins, Pans, Saws Build Useful Skills Covered with sawdust, a boy emerges from the woodworking shop beaming with pride. The project may not always be perfect, but there is a lot of satisfaction in knowing that he built it himself. Amid tantalizing odors, pin cushions, and thread, the girls in Home Economics learn skills that will be helpful to them later in life. In the spring, the sewing classes spon- sored a fashion show. Sweating palms grip the steering wheel as the instructor gives the Driver Education pupil the OK for the first turn of the wheel. The butterflies ore soon sedated, and the students learn the basic driving skills. Testing of reaction time, peripheral vision, and other essential abilities is done in class to prepare the student for the road. GREG STREET CAREFULLY MEASURES the correct amount of plastic for his class project. ' -J 1 HOME-EC STUDENTS TASTE samples of the goodies they have whipped up in class.
