The establish- ment and development of this back- ground is the purpose of the Short- ridge Business Department. Ever growing and expanding to meet the demands of today ' s commercial world, Shortridge offers necessary courses such as Shorthand, Typing, Bookkeeping, General Business, Busi- ness Law, Salesmanship, Business Arithmetic, Business English, and Of- fice Production. Students in Office Production classes play an active role in typing and mimeographing the notices and bulletins that help our school to operate efficiently. Art Students ' Creativeness Challenged The Art Department strives to ex- tend a student ' s perception of art, to increase his art vocabulary, to de- velop his artistic abilities, and to awaken his creativity and originality. Courses in art, craft arts, and com- mercial art, as v» ell as art apprecia- tion for seniors are available. Putting their talents to practical work as they learn, art students produce articles ranging from back drops to posters for the Family Frolic. Many school publications also benefit; art stu- dents design covers for the Christmas Echo and for the Junior Vaudeville Program. Competition with students of other schools as well as that between Shortridge students is encouraged. PAT FORD STRIKES a pose for sketching art students. MRS. Coordination Qtressed; Students Exercise, Play One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four is probably what you will hear as you enter a physical educa- tion class. As girls slim down and develop their figures, boys concen- trate on muscular development and coordination. By utilizing apparatus and participation in dances, relays and exercises, students derive enjoy- ment as well as fitness. Hard work, sportsmanship are given in exchange for physical fitness, good grades, and squad victories. During the winter, skills such as rope climbing and tumbling are learned by the boys. Daily basketball practice supplements apparatus in the girls ' gym. In the spring, the boys and girls abandon the gym for the outdoors as they participate in base- ball, kickball, and track. POINTING TOES and standing straight, girls BUILDING UP good shooting arms, boys throw basketballs in gym.
