Michael Mark is will- ing to show you how it was derived. nderstanding And Knowledge Cf Theories From the simplest general mathematics to the most complex calculus, the math department teaches its stu- dents to think through the many situations that face them in the world of numbers. Offering five possible years of training, the department has stimulated many students with its complete coverage of the complexities of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Interest in mathematics is voiced outside the classroom in three active organizations. Freshmen are invited to join Hi-Pi Club, from which they may progress to Math Club, and if their average and interest is high enough, Mu Alpha Theta, national math honorary. Combining probing searches into the past with analytical studies of present-day problems and rela- tions, the department has sought to give students an i11- sight into just what history is and what makes it so important. An active group stemming from the history department, the History Club brings this search into a more informal atmosphere.
