Scholarship is more than reading and memorization. It is acquiring an understanding if a subject and then learning how to apph this knowledge. It is correlating facts and using basic principles, and in the process, it is learning perseverance: late nights, long hours cyfstuabz, short hours of sleep inject that stick-to-it drive into our characters. It is searching jbr our best and accepting no less. It is finding for ourselves that the eagz way is not fyten the right way. It is term papers, problems, maps, and translations: elements that teach us to think. But, most fy' all, it is a realization that learning comes not just jrom a teachen' it must come also through our own ejforts. This is scholarship. This is

Shortridgers have helped build some of these links. Through their work in the American Field Service program Shortridgers from here and abroad have helped us to understand people of other lands. Indiana University language exchange students have brought in- creased knowledge ol language and people back to Short- ridge and have taken a part of Shortridgc with them. Members of Overseas Club and Human Relations Council have learned to understand other peoples-those of dif- ferent backgrounds, appearances and beliefs.
