Girls Take Leading Roles In Social, Scholastic Life Brains and beauty are standard requirements for the ideal girl and in May, 1956, the junior class displayed the beauty part at the annual Jun- ior Prom at the Indiana Roof ballroom. Boys in white dinner jackets and the girls in rustling formals gathered for the introduction of the 12 candidates. Then the climax came- Roberta Demlow was named Junior Prom queen for the class of 1957. Runners-up were Jane Mess and Stacia Walters, in second and third places, respectively. Also in the beauty department-Diane Beeler was crowned Military Ball queen at the ROTC affair last fall. Her court included Cynthia Cros- treet, Dianne Spencer, and Stacia Walters. In the brain departmentm-many honors have been brought to Shortridge by the girls through their scholastic and leadership abilities. Both the first and second place students on the full-time 1957 senior honor roll were girls, Ann Carper and Mary Welty.
