X CURRICULUM SPEECH Assembly Training Speech and Produc- tions are the three speech courses which are offered to seniors. The Assembly Training class is responsible for planning writing casting and directing the weekly assemblies. Each member has one assem- bly for which he is personally responsible and each member also presents an origi- nal one-hour lecture recital at the end of the year. The main purpose of speech is to teach the art of communication by means of a concentrated study of radio class which is the technical crew for the assemblies students learn and practice the fundamentals of technical play pro- duction I I I I I , I television and drama. I . l I 6 . CURRICULUM HEALTH Shorewood's Health Department is repre- sented in the high school by Mrs. Thompson, school nurse. Besides testing and recording the results of students' hearing, weight, height, and vision, Mrs. Morse, dental hy- gienist, plays an important role by checking teeth twice a year. A polio immunizing clinic TB skin testing including the follow-up checking and X rays is an annual protect for the department Routine office work in cludes medical excuses from Phy Ed pupils referred by teachers and emergencies from other school activities From 745 AM to 4 45 P M a student can visit the health office and get tips on anything from proper dieting to care of complexion COPPERDOME GIRLS PHYSICAL EDUCATION The arms of Glrls physncal education are concerned wuth the future as well as the present The purposes of the course are to nncrease motor skulls to help de velop better health habits to develop skull In sports and to promote leadershlp and cltlzenshup through good Sportsman ship and desirable attitudes Last but not least fun results for all who partnclpate Durrng the past year the gurls had a chance to perfect themselves In basket ball fleld hockey volleyball swrmmlng baseball archery tennls and bowllng Mrss Haensgen Muss Brock and Mass Ham nlton helped all to approach these goals I . . , . . , . I I I 1 I , . . 1 I ' I - C U R R I C U L U M BOYS PHYSICAL EDUCATION With a rigid program of body building and muscular coordination the boys physical edu cation department has a well rounded curricu lum Indoor and outdoor sports are followed by tests for the various skills which are gained during the season Excellent facilities enable teachers to instruct boys in the finer points of several actvltles Gynastlcs occupied most f tramplng rope climbing and other fitness skills Swimming basketball and volleyball constitute a malor portion of the indoor program Fresh air sports including football soccer and base ball add the needed depth to the years ac IIVIIISS I .. i . . O the winter with the boys working on tumbling, C O P P E R D O M E PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES Often the period of growing up is encum- bered with many problems for the student, but while most of these difficulties can be solved by parents, teachers, or counselors, a few do need psychological guidance. Shore- wood's psychologist, Dr. Helen Dunlap, is always available to aid all students who desire help.
