19,40 SPAR TAN '-'W BIBLIOPHILIST The Bibliophilist Club was organized in October, 1938 by a group of Freshmen and Sophomore girls, now Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in the Library Bibliophil ist means 'Lover of Booksu, and the club endeavors to create interest in good literature and to augment the library facilities During the year a tag day has been sponsored, dances an movies have been given, and the club sells pencils to procure money for the new books. 1.950 MXPAR TA N , 3f ' 1 kATIONxL IOLCR SCCIFTY For the first time in its history Shinnston High School has a chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Sch ools The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 and has now more than 2500 chapters in the best high schools of this country The obyects of the Shinnston Chapter are to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to promote worthy leadershl to stimulate a desire to render service, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Shinnston High School The membership is limited to ten per cent of the Senior Class and to five per cent of the Junior Class This percentage amounts to nine of our ninety Seniors and to six of our one hundred twenty five Juniors These students must stand in the upper one third of their classes and must have spent at least one year in Shinnston High School previous to the time of their election as members They must have a sch olarship average of B, with no grade lower than C. Their elig- ibility is also considered on the basis of service, leadership and character.
