CLASS PROPHECY There I was domg the famxly washmg whlch conslsted largely of dxapers and men s overalls' The rad1o was goxng full blast so I could hear my favorxte muslcal program above the cr1es of the cluldren Evldently the chores of farm lrfe weren t enough to keep Carol Ux busy for she was the star of thxs radzo show On the radmo she went by her maxden name Carol Wxtchxe so that her classmates and frrends would remember her Just as I hung up the last paxr of overalls I remembered that I must call the den t1st to make an appoxntment for some frllmgs Dr Jean Alfrey known back rn 50 as Choppy Moser, had her offxce U1 Shxloh and was makmg good professlonally and domestxcally Jean had the latest news to tell me and I was all ears It seems that .hm Huston had taken up flymg smce cars were so hard to control Ilm had just been rushed to the Sh1loh Memorzal Hosp1tal where he was havmg a broken leg set and bemg treated for cuts and bruzses Maybe he should have stuck to lus cartoon wrxtmg Arlyce Whrtcomb was hxs nurse and under her patzent care he would lxve at leas Arlyce m her spare txme was wrztrng another novel whrch was soon to be pubhshed A knock came at the front door so I had to say goodbye to Jean and run to answer xt There before me stood Lee Sparks He was sellmg Fuller Brushes and wondered 1f I was mterested Lee always had a lme to hand out so he thought he d try hrs luck as a salesman I d1dn t l1ke bezng bothered by salesmen but smce Lee was an old schoolmate I thought I would obhge hrm by buymg a han' brush The chrldren dxdn lrke that because I had one and thezr dad was almost bald 1 felt a lzttle sorry for Lee after he left He had told me that he was stxll waxtmg for Mary Lou Russell I-hs salesmansh1p hadn t worked on her as Mary Lou was Gazette They were both smgle as they d1dn t want to rush 1nto anythmg too hastrly The marlman came so I ran out to get the ma1l Marshall Clabaugh had been maxl carr1er for over f1ve years He llved on a farm but Marxlyn took care of that end of the Job Marshall told me that Bob Thomas had just started a tax1 servxce ln Shlloh and all the tax1s were equrpped w1th televzslon It was provmg very successful H also owned a Dr1ve In Ette between Shrloh and Planktown I took the mall and went back to the house to read a letter I had recewed from Lorene Clagg Lorene was home from her honeymoon and startmg housekeepmg Her boss had found ner so capable as a secretary that he asked her to manage h1s home I had a lot of work to do so I merely glanced at the Gazette The headlmes carr1ed news of the elect1on Dean Seaman was elected Mayor of Sh1loh and was havmg a bxg banquet at the Smoke House 1n h1s honor All h1s classmates of 50 were 1nv1ted Don Guthrle was owne and operator w1th of course .Tame as bookkeeper and fmancxal advrsor fhat way he dxdn t have to hlre a spec1al bookkeeper and he could keep busx ness matters rn the famrly Golly the re on the soc1ety page was a b1g plcture of Betty Kaylor' She always wanted to be a professwnal 1ce skater and she had had ner wxsh Because of a bad fall Betty was glvmg up her career to be marrled 1 thmk she nad the fall Sometlme back, but rt was just takmg effect Earl was st11l wa1t1ng for her so now she could settle down to dome strc l1fe I awoke w1th a start as Dad called me to go to bed I realxzed then It had all been a dream I had fallen asleep whxle readmg my Ca Blu Sh1 fm, ellen I ' ' n u . . . . , . , . . , . . , - I ' ' . . GO WEST YOUNG MAN' A Comedy ln Three Acts John Rand The Semor Class presented thelr play on December Jane W1ll1s T1ll1e Beggs Alkah A1 Harry Martm Wes Hopper Ken Thornton Charlotte Stone Fran Dav1s B1ms1e Roberts Edrth Roberts Al1c1a Pr1ngle Thomas Stanley L1z Stone Characters were as follows a young rancher a h1red gxrl a rough tough hombre a playboy h1s fr1end a sleepy man a stenographer Charlotte s frxend a lxttle demon her long sufferxng mother an he1ress a man of affa1rs a female shenff 6 1949 Mary Lou Russell Carol Sue W1tch1e James Huston Charles Wolfersberger Donald uuthrxe Marshall Clabaugh Lols Anna England Betty Anne Kaylor Jean Moser Lorene Clagg Arlyce Whxtcomb Lee Sparks Barbara Eaves Dean Seaman Synopsms The act1on of the ent1re play took place 1n the l1v1ng room of the Double X Ranch Go West Young Man had a fast movmg plot, western arawl plenty of actxon and some of the funn1est lmes you ll ever run across IH a month of Sundays Jane W1ll1s the herome found herself w1th nothmg but the Double X Ranch left to her by her late father She declded to turn the Double X mto a dude ranch Her f1rst paymg guests cons1sted of seven oddly assorted characters and two fake cowboys Harry a wealthy playboy and Wes hls wzse crackmg frlend The cowboys turned up when T1ll1e had gone to town to plck up the dudes Harry and Wes were travelmg from New York to Cal1forn1a where Harry was to be marrled Love at fxrst s1ght must have been Harry s motto for when he saw Jane he for got h1s weddlng and declded to stay and play cowboy The other dudes were Fran Dav1s, a female wolf and bashful Charlotte Stone two stenographers from the East 1n search of romance Ken Thornton a young man who kept fallmg asleep, Thomas Stanley a nervous busmessman, Al1C1a Prmgle r1ch young woman Ed1th Roberts mother of the so called demon B1ms1e Roberts We mustn t forget Alkal1 Al, a slxghtly cracked old t1mer who cla1med to be the roughest toughest hombre west of Red Rwer As the actlon unfolded we d1scovered that some of the characters weren t what they seemed to be A myste r1ous black notebook appeared an envelope contammg f1fty one thousand dollar b11ls changed hands shots were heard 1n the dark Count Dmo appeared, look1ng for h1s woman s Al1c1a Prmgle, who was not Al1c1a but another woman posmg as Al1c1a The female sherxff looked mto thmgs Facts are pxeced to gether to f1nd that Thomas Stanley was workmg on a secret project and Al1c1a Prmgle was h1s accomplxce Ken Thornton turned out to be a G man who was very much awake The cr1m1nals were taken back to Washmgton and Just1ce trmmphs What became of Jane?
