CLASS HISTORY In September 1946 when I thought of how we had worked for e1ght years lt d1dn t seem POSS1blC that we were the Freshmen and our goal lay only four short years ahead of us when we would be the Sen1ors and would be graduatmg But now as the t1me draws near we th1nk joyfully most of the t1me but a l1ttle sadly now and then about our tlmes as students at Sh11oh H1gh Why xt seems only yesterday we were boardmg the plane at Shlloh for our f1rst mzssxon as Freshmen The off1cers of the shlp were as follows J'1m Huston Pllot Lee Sparks Co pllot Mary Lou Russell Radxoman Jean Moser Gunner Mr Hartley was chosen as nav1gator unt1l the mxddle of the year when he ba1led The passenger 11st showed the followmg Don Guthrxe Chuck Wolfersberger Arlyce Wh1tcomb Betty Kaylor Bob Thomas Elxzabeth Kllgore Peggy and Betty Mock Mary Leaply Carol Sue W1tCh16 Maxme Cole Jlm Huston Lee Sparks Durmg th1s m1ss1on we lost Tom Laser Ellaree Vanderpool Rose Mar1e Perkms Dean Seaman Betty Stewart Tom Laser Paul Baker Donna Seaton Justme Staton Ruth Staton Ogelean Lykms Rose Mar1e Perkms Ellaree Vanderpool Mary Lou Russell Jean Moser Mary Leaply Ruth Staton We decxded to take leave txll the f1rst of September and then take up our m1ss1on through the tough Sophomore year when we were to report back Durmg the leave the plane was repaxred and we came back xn to fmd a new crew and passenger 11st The crew was chosen to be Jean Moser P11ot Chuck Wolfersberger Co pllot Paul Baker Radxoman Lee Sparks Gunner si 17 D D Y . l . Mrs West was our new nav1gator unt1l the mxddle of the year when she ave u her post to Mrs Shuck The passengers aboard were Bob Thomas Arlyce Wh1tcomb Dean Seaman Mary Lou Russell J1m Huston Carol Sue W1tch1e Betty Kaylor Ogelean Lykms Betty Stewart Donna Seaton Ju stme Staton In October the class was saddened by the death of Paul Baker our fellow class mate In November we put on a Sadxe Hawkms Day assembly program and later we had a Chapel Program Through the year several partxes were held Besxdes Paul we lost Donna Seaton and Maxme Cole durlng th1s m1ss1on Durmg e leave we lost Don Guthr1e Peggy and Betty Mock Lo1s England came back from Johnsvxlle 1n the fall and Marshall Clabaugh from Plymouth rn the spr1ng to Jom our class Don Guthne came home from Flor1da By May most of us we re v1ct1ms of battle fat1gue and a leave would have been well earned so we left vowmg to return as the Jolly Junxors of 1949 Agam the plane was repaxred and another mlssxon was on the docket th1s t1me through the Junzor year Mr P1ttenger was lookxng over the charts when we arr1ved at school and when we got he re we declded the crew would be Loxs England Pxlot Carol Wrtchle Co p1lot Jean Moser Radloman Chuck Wolfersberger Gunner The rest of the passengers were Lee Sparks Betty Stewart Don Guthrie Ehzabeth Kmlgore Mary Lou Russell Dean Seaman Arlyce Whxtcomb Bob Thomas Betty Kaylor Marshall Clabaugh Jxrn Huston Durlng this mlssxon we gamed Lorene Clagg and durmg the leave we lost Ogelean Lykms and Justme Staton Th1s mxssmon was one of the most enjoyable as we had several thmgs to do On the lst of April we had our .Tumor Class Play The Ghost House , and later on m May we had the annual Junxor and Semor Banquet for e Semors We gave one of the hvelzest banquets that has ever been put on here e used an old fashxoned garden theme Then the year was over and everyone started 18 . . . . g P th ' , . . . . . , .. ,, . . . th . . . . .
