WRESTLING MR. PATTISON, MR. HACKER, COACHES Although amateur wrestling has achieved its greatest popularity within the last two decades, it is by no means a new sport. Wrestling is of value to any athletic program because it gives the small boy, as well as the larger boys a chance to actively participate in varsity competition. Wrestling, although relatively new in the Seymour School system, shows promise as an up and coming spectator sport. WINTIN, SPONSOR This year for the first time our school has an organization known as the PEP CLUB. Its membership is about two hundred, including the cheerleaders and athletes who automatically become members by virtue of their abilities. The members of the club pledged themselves to abide by the rules set forth in the constitution of the organization. Each member was admitted to the Shields Junior High athletic events by a Pep Club card which was purchased during the organization process of the club. Enthusiasm has waxed high at the games this year and members of the club not only attended the games of their own particular class, but the games of all three classes. The Pep Band, under the direction of Mr. Gregory, deserves much credit for its mu- sical renditions at the games during the season. The organization of the PEP CLUB and the PEP BAND instilled a new enthusiam for the Junior High games. 58

BASKETBALL GRADE NINE, COACHES: MR. LASATER, MR. BECK The freshman basketball teams of the Shields Junior High School enjoyed another successful year in athletics. The freshman teams are broken into two teams, the Purple and the White, both teams playing separate schedules. During the year for special games there is a combination of both teams. The thought behind two freshman teams is to allow as many boys as possible to participate, thus being fairly sure not to miss any varsity prospects. Mr. Lasater coached the White team, and completed the season with ten wins and one loss. Mr. Beck coached the Purple team and his season record was fifteen wins and two losses. Both coaches are looking forward to another fine season in athletics.
