Banks, better known as the school children's friend, has been one of the most staunch supporters of the high school since its beginning back in 1927. NB. D. , as he is fondly called by alumni and local friends, will be remembered for his active interest in the Tide, the Sherman Tattler, and all other phases of work in the high school. A book such as this would not be complete without some mention of the man who helped to make a greater Sherman. Charles W. Conner, superintendent of the Nellis Coal Corpora- tion, is another whose friendship has meant much to the institution. When the county unit was introduced by Governor Kump, it was Mr. Conner whose name was placed on the list of board members. While in that capacity he served diligently, ever keeping in mind the welfare of the youth of Boone County. Students and teachers will vouch for the fact that Mr. Conner is another whose name will long be remembered. He is ever willing to cooperate with the educational program of Boone County. David O. Garred, manager of the Red Parrot Coal Company stores, has been at Prenter since 1929. Mr. Cwarred is another of those loyal friends who can be depended upon to come through for the high school when called upon. His keen interest in the band has made him many friends among the members of the music department. lt can be said without a doubt that Sherman High School owes much to men like Dave Garred. E. B. Kennan came to Nellis in 1924 when The American Rolling Mills owned and operated the Nellis mines. At the present Mr. Ken- nan is cashier of the Nellis Coal Corporation which took over the Nellis workings. A native West Virginian whose boyhood home was in Nicholas County, Mr. Kennan is another whose keen loyalty to the high school has scored high favor among students and patrons. H. B. Morgan may be classed as a newcomer to Boone County, although he has been at Prenter as general superintendent of the Red Parrot Coal Company during the past six years. This in no way hindered his loyalty to the institution, for it was through his noble efforts that the Sherman Tattler has been able to forge ahead to the ranks of a first-class newspaper again. Boone County can point with pride to men like Mr. Morgan and his associates. It has been said that these men have been the bulwark on which a greater Sherman has been molded. f 4-41 A, . J
