Business offers good preparation for future The Business department at SHS can help students prepare for the business world we live in. My typing skills will always give me something to fall back on in the future, commented Cindy Collins, junior. The Business department offers Shorthand, Typing I and ll, Accounting, Record Keeping, General Business, one semester of Business Eommunication, and one semester of Business aw. Business Law Classes experience debates, guest speakers, and a mock trial. All classes prove to be very rewarding for someone interested in the business field. Art offers variety of creative experience Stained glass, water colors, ink and pencil, and pastel colors are all a part of art. Sherman High offers Art I-IV. Art I and ll work on things such as texture rubbings, assembling designs, ink drawings, and drawing portraits. Art is a very creative subject, commented Melissa Griffin, sophomore. Art lll and IV students are required to pay for their own supplies and are able to sell some of their art work. Some people think that Art is a blow-off class, but it really isn't, stated Deanna Denison, junior. Hall exhibits displaying various types of art were held in November and May. Students develop oral communications skills The various Speech and Drama classes at SHS offered a variety of outlets for students interested in cultivating their skills in communication. Speech, drama, acting, oral interpretation, public speaking, dramatic evaluation, mass media concepts, and other various types of communication skills are taught in drama. The first priority of each speech and drama class was to develop whatever communication skills each student possessed. I liked drama, it gave me a chance to be myself and I loved doing it, commented Eugene Brown, sophomore. Production was another important factor of drama. lt provided a vehicle for the various talented students to display their talents. Artistic acting and directing was stressed, but discipline, hard work, and knowledge associated with working backstage was also taught, stated Mr. Robert Watson, instructor.
