At least all appears well. But in the air is a tenseness that is electrifying. The seconds tick by, and then- the clamor of a bell, the shuffle of feet, and SHS is in an uproar. It's noon in Sherman High. It's every man for himself. There's a. stampede through the halls, a pilefup at the doors. Pennell, Wade, and Taylor come out of study hall in a T formation. They zoom down the hall sending eighth graders in every direction. Charlie Howard is taking the steps seven at a time. One word is echoed through the halls,-- Hamburgers! Outside, the pound of roaring motors mixes with the numerous other pleasant sounds to form a mild bedlam. Ernie Morris roars down the street putting quite a few gray hairs in adult heads and increasing the agility of youthful pedestrians. This and many other confusing sights can be seen. ' Now it is 12:45, and the calm students of SHS slowly stroll back to schoolas they sip their delicious malts or munch that crispy buttered popcorn. Yes, another noon hour is drawing to a close at Shennan High, Again the bewildered residents of of South Crockett gaze upon their paperflittered lawns and prayerfully mutter that famous phrase, Give me strength. WILLIAM BUCKLBY.
