School Events The flrst of our school events started off wlth the carmval on Frlday October 6 1950 The purpose of the carmval was to raxse money for the athlet1c fund At th1s event there was a large number of people who enjoyed themselves at penny p1tch bmgo dart throw and many others At the close of the carnlval Maurxce Tmsley and Loretta W1lson Sophomore cand1dates were Kmg and Queen After the carmval there was a dance The second of our school events was the box soc1al on the nxght of Tuesday October 24 There was a good crowd and the boxes sold hlgh The next was a Thanksglvmg Dance glven by the .Tumors and Semors on the n1ght of Wednesday November Z2 There was a good crowd and everyone had fun Ben Lacy and hxs Pra1r1e Ramblers furmshed the musxc ln order to raxse money for the .Tumor and Semor fund we gave a play entltled, Surprlse Package Husband It was a comedy 1n three acts It was g1ven on December 1 m the gymnasxum The adrrussxon was sxxty cents The star of the play was B1lly DeShazer as Uncle Henry 4 H Banquet The K1owa County 4 H Banquet was held at Sherxdan Lake th1s year 1n the H1gh School Gyrnnaslum on November 10 1950 All of the 4 H leaders and members from all of the clubs 1n K1owa County were present Boys and g1rls outstandmg 1n the1r projects over the county were gwen troph1es and everyone who completed h1s or her project was glven a certlhcate Approxxmately S250 00 was taken ln from the supper t1ckets lunlor Senzor Banque! and Prom The .Tun1ors entertamed the Semors at the h1gh school at a banquet February th1rd The theme of the banquet was Mexlcan The banquet room was decorated to represent an adobe hacxenda The couples were seated at tables covered wxth brzghtly colored cloths and decorated wxth candles Precedmg the program Mr Law played soft mus1c on the p1ano to add to the settmg The Sophomores who served wore clothes of brxght colors The Freshmen washed dlshes Following the banquet the prom was held xn the gym w1th the Rhythmalres from Eads playing The gym was decorated wxth balloons and crepe paper The affaxr was formal and was enjoyed by everyone n - 1 0 ' u 1 1 0 D I I I 0 I ' I 0 , . . . 1 ll ' ll ' ' . . 1 . Parent Teacher ASSOCIGUOD One of the outstandmg features of the educatxonal program durmg the school year 1950 51 was the estabhshment and orgamza tzon of the Sheridan Lake Parent Teacher Assoc1at1on An orgamzatlonal meetmg was held 1n September 1950 at whxch txme members were enrolled offxcers elected rules and regulatxons agreed upon and plans made for affzhatlng with the Natmonal Congress of Parents and Teachers All meetmgs of the group were held ln the school buxldxng Pro grams var1ed and cons1sted of muslcal events, dxscussrons and varrous types of educatxonal events Perhaps the outstandmg educat1onal program of the year was an open house whlch was held xn conjunctxon w1th the February meetxng A typxcal school day ln mxnxature was presented and all phases of school hfe was opened for the observatlon, crltzcxsm and suggestlons of the parents Tlus event also afforded an opportumty for parents to dlscuss wlth the teachers any personal d1ff1cult1es 1nvo1v1ng thexr chzl dren regardmng school l1fe Thus far the Shendan Lake Parent Teacher ASSOC13t10n has been an outstandmg success It IS hoped that thxs orgamzatlon w1l1 con txnue to thr1ve many more years and that It w1ll contmue to bestow many worth wlule benefxts upon the chxldren of the Sherldan Lake School I u I - D - . . - . . f I I D I I . . - I . .. ,, . . . . . .
