UNGEONS DRAGONS Your torch light only permits you to see about 10 feet of the passage that lies ahead of you. The floor is made of smooth stone. The walls have relief carvings on them and upon examina- tion you can see that they depict some type of weird beast. You move about thirty feet and then the passage turns to the right. Cautiously you peer around the corner and in the flickering torch light you can make out a large door. When you move closer you see that it is a heavy oak door with bronze hardware. The door is unlocked so you draw your sword and use its magic to see if it can detect any traps. You sense no traps on or around the door. Next you place your ear to the door and you hear a moaning that rises and then fades away. Now what is your next move . . . This is an example of a fantasy role playing game. Dungeons and Dragons is an exercise in imagination and per- sonal creativity. The organizer of the campaign, the dungeon master, must use the system to devise an individual and unique world. As a role player, you can become a fighter, wizard, or even a thief.
