Allen—Biology I, II; B.S., Jamestown College. Courses such as Earth Science and General Science instruct the student in the fundamentals of science. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, more advanced science courses, prepare individuals for an actual career in a science field. Movies, slides, additional laboratory equipment, and student teachers were all welcomed aids to the science teacher. Aviation was quite the thrilling science course this year. Mr. Nielsen was the ground instructor for the students who wish, one day, to possess a private pilot's license. Already two of his senior students, Jerry Elkins and Stan Sterkel have reached this goal. 27

The math department sponsored two very different events this year. Mr. Jenkins from the University of Wyoming lectured to all students taking a course in math. He emphasized knowledge of certain fundamentals, as the short cuts which make an extremely difficult problem seem easy. The second event was the annual math contest. The schools participating were Sheridan, Tongue River, Big Horn, and Buffalo. Buffalo’s class A team took first place honors, with Sheridan second, while Sheridan's Class B team garnered a first place.
