it ssl as . is X The program entitled Freshies are Funny was appropriately named. It was a take- off from the radio program People are Funny. Each contestant was called before the audience to perform his consequence. Helen Cathelyn had Bob Standard portraying a professional boxer. His stunt was to pull a pillowcase ona pillow with the aid of boxing gloves. Gail Stonewall had a simple job of filling an empty glass with water with a teaspoon carried from one side of the gym to the other. She was carrying with her a giant-size mop just in case she spilled any on the floor. Russell Chasteen had his contestants, Ronnie Johnson and Linda De Bates, performing in a race. Each 'had to carry a ping pong ball in a spoon across the gym. Hands were against the rules. so the spoons were held in their mouths. Camille McCune had Mary Hortega and Wally Jenkins performing together. Mary began the stunt by giving Wally a refreshing shave with the aid of about a bucket of lather. Wally then had the pleasure of putting makeup on Mary, which included every- thing from cold cream to eyebrown makeup. Ruth Anne De Freezer had Louise De Marlie count candy with boxing gloves while singing the enchanting lyrics to Ten Little Indian Boys. John De Freezer was then told to get autographs ofeveryone in the audience on you -know-what-kind -of paper. Rose Mary Gentry decided to have Nadine Eggiman and Don Folk remove marbles from adish pan withoutusing hands. That wastooeasy so she mixed the marbles with delicious peppered oatmeal. In fact, it looked like so much fun that Marlene Driessens could not keep her two contestants, Marvin Driessens and Kay Jones from joining them. We forget just now which couple found the first marble, but we know they both found the pepper. Chuck Young had charge of Judy Bills and Neil Hewitt. First, Judy fed Neil with a baby bottle while singing Rock-a-Bye Baby . Then came the switch when Neil fed Judy strained spinach. Wayne Smith's two charges were Donna Thomas and Tom Kaufman. Donna en- tertained by doing ahulahula dance in her grass skirt. Tom gave all the audience candy and gum. He persuaded them by sitting on their laps. Lois Sipes had her two charges. John Durick and Helen Preston, feed each other marshmallow fluff- -With their bare hands, of course. Kenny Riggs had charge of Paul De Pauw and Jo Ann Speakman. It started off well as Paul began talking on any subject. But every time he would mention the word it Jo Ann would pour water and flour on him. Bob Johnson gave Nancy Sipes and Margaret Hasbrook a thrilling time by having them take turns sitting on Paul De Pauw's lap while singing a romantic ballad.
