C. G. I.APPIN Oberlin College-B.A. Ohio State University-M.A. O. C. KNECHT Bowling Green State University-B.S. Indiana University-M.S. United States Government Superintendent BUILDING Building what? Our first impulse, when building is mentioned, is to think of more classrooms. Why? To care for our increasing enrollment? Yes. However, let's take a broader view. We are attempting to build quality as well as quantity. We aim to better the quality and training of our teaching force, our course of study and scholastic attainment of our students. Our aim is to build better individuals for the highly competitive game of life. Some ingredients for this kind of building are skill in preparing to earn a living and greater development of character. Another in- gredient is a strong conception of civic duty. We hope to place emphasis upon vocational, social and educa- tional guidance. We strive for finer relationship be- tween teachers and pupils-to inspire greater school loyalty'. Such a building program cannot be carried out by the administrators alone, by the teachers or pupils alone. We must all plan, work and strive together for a better and lasting Shawnee structure. And you, parents, help us mix a lasting type of mortar. The whistle is blowing, let us go to work. Administration Principal Although somewhat handicapped by growing pains, Shawnee continues to provide a wide and varied curriculum, and a large number of activities in which its students may participate. The basic col- lege preparatory, general culture, vocational agricul- ture, home economics and the commercial courses all provide opportunity for students to elect the type of training they seek, according to their individual in- terests and abilities. To help the students explore and seek out vocational possibilities, they are further aided by many guidance devices and services. Excellent li- brary facilities, teaching aids, various visual educa- tional techniques, health services and driver's training all contribute to the educational needs of our youth. An adequate, well-trained teaching staff is working constantly to provide the type of instruction needed for effective life adjustment education for our students. Truly, we continue to grow, not alone in numbers but in educational service as well. -12-
