Much changed since the sophomore of three years back, the senior has accepted high school as a way of life. Three years at Shaw have prepared him for four at college or a lifetime in the world. It will be hard, he admits, to get used to the idea of not going to school everyday, but what lies ahead may possibly be better. SENIORS

Today the flag of our country is flying at half mast from the fiagstaffs of all the schools in East Cleveland. This is being done as a fitting gesture of respect to the memory of a man of honesty and integrity in all things, a man of meticulous dress, manners, and speech, of few words but great deeds, of quiet dignity and humility with respect to his personal achievements, for he took great pride in the contribution of Shaw students and faculty in maintaining and improving the position and reputation of our school and the East Cleveland School System. This Gymnasium, completed in 1953, is a tribute to his leadership in providing both educational and recreational facilities for youth. Three years ago a new structure with lounge, pool and music center was his final contribution to the youth of the community. The Board of Education fittingly named the structure the “KORB CENTER” in his honor. Dr. Korb served as our Superintendent of Schools for 21 years. He also served as a trustee of Kent State University. Many Shaw graduates in recent years received scholarships or grants-in-aid to Kent State through his efforts. Only last week I mailed him material concerning a member of this year’s June class, for his use in assisting another Shaw student towards a college education. All of us here this morning have lost a friend and benefactor. Some may question the propriety of a rally here this morning. Those of us who knew Dr. Korb well have no doubt about his personal opinion as to its propriety. He would have wanted it to be this way. As a small measure of our respect and affection for this man and our sympathy to Mrs. Korb and the surviving sons and their families, I ask you all to stand, face the Shaw Banner, and bow your heads for 30 seconds of silence in his memory.
