Having two of the easiest mccts cancelled and losing one to a much weaker team is enough to discourage anyone, but our fish kept fighting and took fourth in the Northwestcrn Meet. a competition in which all the teams of the North and Middle YVest take part. Prouty, Shattut-k's speedy backstrokc. was the school's star in this meet. He easily won the baekstrokc. and gave his team-mates a very great lead in the medley relay. He also swam the forty and on thc 160 yard relay team. ln a past season competition he broke the state record by swim- ming the hundred back in 1:08 Hat. In a prc- vious meet at the school he had tied. unofiicially thc national interscholastic record of 1:072AQ. This record did not count, however, as hc tied it in a dual mcct and not in an interscholastic competition. As hc will be with us again next ycar, hc will probably do evcn better. Carleton was the cause of our losing our only dual meet. This, however, was only a trick of fate as shown by the fact that thc Crimson men swam considerably over their customary times. Unc Shattuck man. who had won a first, was disqualified for an illegal turn. However, as it was the iirst mcct away from home of the season the team was undoubtably very nervous and frightened, and could not 'do its best. liven then wc lost by only a very slight score. lYe would, undoubtedly, also have won two Afwrtf mcets if they had not been cancelled. 'l'hesc were NVllQil-RUL'ilt'SLf5l' 2113 Hamline teams, which wc were surc of beating lxqargghscorcs. 'l'hc ealling oti' of these two meets kept sbme of thc men from winning their letters. Captain Burbank and Prouty, Garvin Cup YViuner, were the two stars of thc year. liobis swimming and diving made him vcry valuable to thc team, whilc Prouty's excellent work made him practically indispensable. XVithout these two men, wc woufd have lost many more meets. ltamalcy, Peters, Daugherty. lienson. Morrison I. Wvesthrook. Xaas, lial-dwin, and .Xhbc also did good work in their respective events.
