HI-Y The Hi-Y is a group composed of boys in the upper three grades of High School. The club is run and ruled by the slogan To create, maintain and extend throughout the school and community high standards of Christian character. The boys have to live up to certain requirements before presented with membership cards. They must also go through an informal initiation. The club un- dertakes such projects as may be of help to school and community. The organization has purchased banking boards for our gym- nasium. The treasury receives its money from the sales of football programs. This year the club was sponsored by a group of business men throughout the city, and the new adviser was Mr. Trosak. His cooperation and hard work proved that he is capable of the job. The officers Who served the club this year were: President, Arthur Browng Vice president, Willard Da- vis, Secretary, Mickey Franks, Treasurer, Robert Rode-fer, Sergeant-at-arms, D. l. Griffiths. The club was composed of 35 members and held a Wiener roast during the fall. They also set up equipment and operated the public address system for the Christmas season- The activities were brought to a grand finale by a formal dance held in the school gym. LIBRARIAN CLUB The Librarian Club was a group of seven- teen girls. Miss Ianet Gregg, county libra- rian Was the adviser of the group. Mrs. Mildred McKelvey, Shadyside librarian, trained the girls in their jobs. The club was in charge of the library in the morning and assisted Mrs. McKelvey in the afternoon. Since this Was the first year for the libra- ry in its new home, this Was the first time that the librarians had an organized club. The club also had several social functions l35l such as a Christmas exchange and a ban- quet. The club helped the library cele- brate its tenth anniversary by giving talks in homerooms about the library and aiding in the openhouse program. The club aided the students in many Ways and we are grateful to them, The officers of the club Were: President, Mary Frances Grovesg Vice president, Do- reen Ionesg Secretary, Io Ellen Harris, Treas- urer, Elia Badia.

Orange et Noir Although this is the first year of the Orange et Noir a publication has existed before under the name of the Teen Tatler. The Orange et Noir edited by members of the staff was under the direction of Mrs. losephine Hess. The purpose of this publication was to re- cord the news of Shadyside High School, 4 but also afforded features and jokes. The name of our paper is a French phrase meaning Orange and Black and is taken from the High School coat of arms. Much credit should be given to those staff members whose duty was selecting ma- terial, making assignments and making up the page.
