l MR. WILLIAM VV. TAYLOR pfiI1CiPCl'S ITIBSSCQE . . This annual, our first one as a full-fledged high school, is the story in pictures and Words of our school life in the Shadle Park High School. On Iune 2, 1960, our first class was graduated. This class furnished most of the leadership of our school in its formative years. Congratulations to the Class of 1960. You have done well in the fields of scholarship, athletics, drama, journalism, debate, art and music. You have set high standards of accomplishments and con- duct as an example to the classes that will follow you. In the future you will look back with pride to your accomplishments in high school. You will remember the days of our firstfvvins on the athletic field, the first time our band was in uniform, our first debate, the first dance, the first school play, the first school songs and yells, the first ASB meetings and many other firsts. This Sporran Will help you relive these memories. Shadle Park now joins the ranks of other thousands of American high schools who are dedicated to producing healthy, self-supporting, socially conscious, morally upright, and rationally behaving young men and Women, who as homemakers, Workers, and as citizens of their school, community, state, nation and the World are able and Willing to defend, maintain and improve our American Way of lifef, 5

Now, we, the annual staff, wish to dedicate this yearbook to the first class ever to be graduated from Shadle Park, the Class of ,6O, and to Mr. William Taylor, the principal who has played such a great and important role in the shaping of one of the most outstanding and beautiful schools ever to be built in Spokane. Though the seniors were faced with many diffi- cult tasks, they became highly capable school lead- ers. Many able students came forward to help be- gin and carry out the jobs of introducing and set- ting the traditions vital for school spirit and of forming the numerous clubs and activities. The annual staff, composed entirely of seniors, spent long hours laboring over the many pages of the Sporran so that the students would be proud of this, their first official annual. For many highlanders, Shadle has been a para- dise for three or more years. It has been a place containing many wonderful and beautiful memor- ies and experiences that will never be forgotten, or, for that matter, will never want to be forgotten. Because the seniors have left this aparadisei' and are now out on their own, we chose as the theme of the Sporran, Special Islandf, When the hardships of the world are experienced, a place is visualized by the individual, a place where the worries and troubles of the world are forgotten and where only the good and beautiful exist. As pages of the Sporran are turned, we hope the daydreams and memories of the reader will be kept alive by the pictures 'and scenes of this school that will live on forever as a Special Islandf' Z f we -M. t a nraa Jw ysorgo 4
