At Valley's dances and proms we have proven we can rock with the best of them We have shown our super spirit at the mighty Mountie pep rallies And Homecoming? We made Homecoming a really special occasion this year We spent much dedicated time in order to celebrate good times. and that's just what we did Santa Claus even visited us seniors He showed us what he thought celebrating was all about and we tust knew that we would have a good time. And the biggest celebration of all? Graduation This proved we seniors knew how to celebrate better than anyone This celebration would last throughout the years' I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE Bright lights, sparkling costumes, and loud bands dominated our night life outside of Valley activities this year Popular concerts and groups, dances and football games at Valley created a night life that no one could resist The Civic Center hosted sizzling groups like Pal Benatar. Journey. Foreigner. Kenny Rogers, and Barry Manilow They had so many fantastic concerts that we practically camped out on their doorstep' Woozie-land was a potential second home for many of us Mounties where we became addicted to Pac-Man and pinball. Putt-putt was also a Valley place where you could see famihnr laces as you passed by the course. McOonald s and Mr. Gath's were also common places for Valley-ans to meet after Friday night football games and dances. Even though the cost of our night life often burned holes in our pockots. we still thought it was worth It OPENING 4 i£H PAOf IOPMOMT Coca.). I OP LETT Kxn M .. Du imm. Jo ChnOm MiDOlE HIGH! At Shades Valley we havo our own unique dating techniques and particular dating places, just like any other school. Besides being roputed as the school that perfected the cave-man approach, we are also noted for our dating hang-outs You'll see Mountie couples at familiar places like McDonald’s, romantically eaimg hamburgers. Mr. Gatti's for pizza, or perhaps to Baskm-Robbins to shore a soda. For those special dates we usually qo up to Baby Doe s or the Fifth Quarter and enioy a dinner for two. For those romantic star-gazers. Star Lake is lust the place, especially for those Valley couples who just love to watch the submarine races on Saturday night. Mountiottes. and Majorettes gave us a reason to bo proud of them They earned superior grades for well-done performances and carried the Mountie-brand well, leaving the fudges with very good opinions of Valley's achievements What with the blisters and sore muscles each group suffered, they still thought that it was all worth it to compete. The hard work and frustrations melted away with the pleasuro of performing for fudges and friends. Through their sometimes agonizing experiences in competition and practice, everyone learned that it takes hard work and concentration to be the best, and. in Valley's book, no one came out a loser OPENING 9 OPENING 10 Juit what i a true Mount ® friend? What's that-’ Most of us go through three years ot high school without knowing the meaning ot the word Hero at Valley most ot us think studying is — cramming the night before or trying to memorise live months ot work the night betoro the semester exam. — writing that essay for Mrs Rickman until 4.00 in the morning and getting up at 6 00 — trying to tall asleep counting the federal cases in government. (You mean there are 61?) Studying for Mrs. Harrell s math test is like training for the Olympics. You begin years in advance Studying is? I don't know. I don't do it. And how about the future? The words seem to imply a vague impression of decisions that must be made . later Well. Seniors, our future is upon us' Many of us in the class of '82 (yeah!) are leaving our childhood behind (at least mosf of us are) and taking up Ihe responsibilities of adulthood We thought we would never make it. didn't we-? 8u1 we did Take a deep breath savor that feeling ot freedom for a moment .. now what do we do? Yet. as children, we take our first tottering steps and fall into the arms of the world. Still playing hide-and-seek, but with our future in instead of our giggling playmates. We will march one last time as school-boys and schoolgirls And emerge as young men and women to take up the march to life ... As expectant, eager, confident as those rosy-cheeked, bright eyed small children we were at Christmas time. We will walk freely; holding God's hand, exploring the prospective futures He holds in store for us in this world. But we must seek to find — or the find means nothing. Take one last lingering look behind as we graduate, from our child standings and see the adults who were our chattering playmates ... The boys who diligently constructed disasters in the sandbox; Tongue-in-cheek as they worked with sand threaded through their hair The girls who played make-believe in carefully created castles of wild vines and branches. Ladies of the house politely passing tea to weathered teddy-bears. The adults who sprang almost miraculously from those tousled children...
