For instance, this year's faculty consisted of 69 members. The majority were family-minded with 52 out of 69 being married — that left 17 available teachers. Forty-three had children and eight were even grandparents. That came to a grand total of 82 children and 16 grandchildren Mrs. Griswold held the record for the most of each by having five children and four grandchildren. Mrs. Wood was in second place with three and three. The faculty was also school oriented with 56% holding their Master's Degrees. Most were involved in student activities for over 60% were club sponsors. The record for teaching here the longest was held by Mrs. Walker. She has taught here for all 30 years of Shades Valley s existence. Three of our faculty members. Mrs. Stone. Mr. Traywick. and Mrs. Yayman, (all of which graduated from Valley) showed loyalty to their Alma Mater by returning here to teach. Our teachers . . . they ranged in age from their twenties to their sixties. They taught an average of 130 students each. Their labors often went unrewarded for almost 0% received the proverbial apple for the teacher. Yet where would we have been without them'? IS? Faith Gibson Allison Hardy Karen Lockhart Penny Simmons Features: Parking Parking Parking Parking ' lf this car is not moved immediately it wifi be towed away was a familiar sound to all of us this year This is part of what was called organized parking. Although no cars were towed away, organized parking was something new to all of us here at Shades Valley. The administration set up the system of organized parking in order to keep a control of who was or was not on campus. Each student who drove to school was required to register his car, purchase a $5.00 parking sticker, and park in his assigned space. The faculty and seniors were given priority in the assignment of spaces The money collected went toward covering the cost of painting the lines and the printing of the stickers. A percentage went to the library with the rest held in account for future lot repairs. After all of the 313 spaces were sold the students who did not have a parking sticker were forced to park on the grass next to the zoo or beside the gym. Problems were encountered if a student drove a car other than the one which had his parking sticker or if someone else parked in his space. The common announcement over the intercom soon solved this. Regardless of any inconveniences organized parking is here to stay.
