If there are any unsung heroes at Valley, they arc the counselors, for each year they supervise the arduous process of college applications, not to mention subject choices, careers, tests, and personal problems. Despite the increasing number of students, our counselors strive to give each student the time and interest he needs. Even before the curriculum was defined, Dr. Peake established the counseling department because of its intrinsic importance to the welfare of the student body. The job of the counselors is a never-ceasing one, but the high percentage of Valley students that go to distinguished colleges is a reflection of the high quality of this department. Shakespeare, and Macaulay are rather heady company, one must admit, but the librarians rub elbows with these and other illustrious thinkers ewer)' day. Their job is the painstaking and exacting one of cataloging, arranging, and acquiring new books. We at Shades Valley have one of the largest and most well-equipped libraries in the state; not onfy do the librarians supervise the books and other materials, but also they help students before and after school. The librarians are continually striving to provide a more enjoyable background for the world of books. The librarians constantly keep the shelves stocked with the best in reading material. 16
