RUTH STONE Clerical Assistant University of Ala. As an unusual extension of high school library, the Shades Valley audio-visual department offers a variety of film strips, an exceptionally large collection of maps, and many records. The films, ranging in subject matter from Macbeth to South Africa, are supplemented by films available through the library of the Jefferson County school system. To make use of these audio-visual aids, the school has acquired a valuable collection of projectors, record players, speakers, and other equipment. 13 Mrs. Beal gives afterschool service.

Counselors Pioneer Guidance Program HORTON B. CHAMBLEH Boys' Counselor Howard College. B.S. OUIDA HIGHTOWER Girls' Counselor State Teachers College B.S. B'ham Southern. A.B. LAMOINE KEARCE Sophomore Counselor Oklahoma State Univ., B.S. The Guidance Department of Shades Valley High School was established before the school itself was in operation. Due to the forethought of the first principal. Dr. Frank A. Peake, this essential department was formed even before the curriculum for the school was set up. Throughout the fifteen years of Valley's existence Mrs. Hightower and Mr. Chamblee have endeavored to provide each individual student with the attention he needs. Due to the tremendous pressure from colleges for an increasingly higher quality of education and due to the expanding number of students in our school, the pressure of the counseling office have increased greatly. To provide the students with continued high quality guidance, another counselor and an assistant to the counselors have been added to the staff.
