Sophomore English The Home Making Deportment consists of a Foods Deportment, a Clothing Deportment, and the Practice House. Two teachers ore responsible for the work in the department. Meal planning, table etiquette, table appointments, advanced meal planning, and cake decorating are included among some of the things offered. The Clothing Department stresses fabric, color, style, originality, besides the basic fundamentals of clothinK. The practical side of Home Making is stressed and any girl having completed one or two years in this course should be superior in managing o home of her own, to the girl who has not had this training. Industrial Arts Education is that phase of general education dealing with materials, procedures and products of manufacturing; learning takes place through the pupils experience with tools and materials. It is a curriculum area of a subject, with an organized group of general school experiences of fundamental procedures in education, learning through a combination of seeing, hearing, thinking, and doing in real life situations. Development of experiences in industrial arts ore essential in the complete general education of every boy and girl in o dominately industrial democracy. Students must learn to give and take, and cooperate in group work. The basic philosophy in industrial arts education Is welfare of the common man . PHYSICAL EDUCATION The purpose of the boys' physical education department is to help strengthen the physical, sportsmanship, and leadership qualities of the boys. Among the many activities included in this department are touch football, basketball, tumbling, and soccer. The girls of Shades Valley are not without their share of athletics. With softball, volleyball, ping-pong, and various other sports, the girls' gym is olways busy. One of the special groups is the modern dance class. Also the Sophomores are offered a class in first aid. Sign me up, Coocb. GirIs, don't ttrain yourselvei.
