This was a young Team, made up mosTly of 6Th and 7Th graders playing againsT Teams wiTh all 8Th graders. And, iT didn'T geT any easier in posT-season play. In The Challenge Cup TournamenT They had To play Teams ThaT were combinaTions of The besT players from all The Under-44 Teams. BuT, like It's hard work, The varsiTy Team, They undersTood The key To overcoming obsTacles was uniTy and dependence upon The Lord. We dedicaTed The enTire season To The Lord, said Coach Mabry. 'lWe never lefT The field afTer a vicTory wiThouT praying and Thanking The Lord. Even when games weren'T going Their way, The Team puT God firsT. For eighTh grader Verick Burchfield, The game againsT The Americans was The highlighT of The season. 'lWe were down aT The half 2-O, buT we came back and won 4-2. BuT, for Verick, The real ThaT because of The way The Team sfaged Their comeback They . . goT To be wiTnesses To The oTher players. Like The resT of The Team, Verick recognized a real obsTacle facing any successful Team - overconfidence. 'lWe were successful because we had Teamwork, and we didn'T geT cocky, he said. We really work as a Team, echoed eighTh grader Chad Francis. Teamwork, dependence on God and proper aTTiTude5 all These are ingredienTs in a winning season, buT but it's worth it. Coach Mabry TaughT The squad ThaT success required one more Thing - work. Many of The younger players weren'T used To This level of compeTiTion. iT's differenT being on J.V. because of The way we played in The Y.M.C.A., said sevenTh grader Aaron Sanders.
