time out Ti regular actlwtles ' Us High Am d MAKING A DIFFEREN E For many of The students of The Jr. High being a member of a club meanT more Than jusT belonging, if meanT making an impacT on The world around Them. One of The mosT acTive clubs was The American Family Associ- aTion, which was The firsT Jr. High chapTer To be formed in The en- Tire counTry. Their acTiviTies cov- ered a wide range of issues. They pickeTed aT local Holiday Inns To proTesT pornographic movies ThaT were being shown, boycoTT- ed local Circle K sTores because of The enormous amounT of por- nographic magazines ThaT were being sold, and convinced local sTore managers To remove un- healfhy magazines from Their shelves by calling and wriTing To complain. Also, The club sidewalk counseled aT local aborTion clin- ics and sang aT a rally in supporT of OperaTion Rescue Csif-in pro- Tesfs where people acTually risked being arresTed for Trespass- ing To save The lives of babies ThaT were being aborTed by The Thousandsq One of The members, eighTh-grader Jennifer Evans, parTicipaTed in a local rescue where she was arresTed and Tak- Members of The Jr. High Ameri- can Family Assoclafion showed Their dedicafion and acfiveness by aTTending The January 22 March For Life To proTesT The 4973 Supreme Courf decision To legalize aborTions. en To juvenile hall for several hours. When she was asked how she felT abouT being arresTed, she said, I would do iT all over again if I had To. The whole group wenT To The January 22 March For Life To proTesT The 4973 Supreme CourT decision To legalize abor- Tion. The A.F.A. was a ToTal and compleTe success This year. They goT a loT accomplished Thanks To The help from Mrs. Williams, Their sponsor. Mr. Mabry's Science Club was anoTher successful club. They had a STar ParTy To observe The skies aT nighT. They held a debaTe on CreaTion vs. EvoluTion To help The sTudenTs undersTand The TruTh of CreaTion. Also, The club wenT on a camping Trip To The Smoky MounTains To sTudy The ouTdoors. The ArT AppreciaTion Club, led by Mr. KaTz, was a club especially for Those sTudenTs who enjoyed The Fine ArTs. They visiTed an arT museum downTown along wiTh aTTending an arT show aT The Gal- leria Mall. The members all gained more knowledge abouT arT ThaT will never leave Them. The CrafTs Club, also led by Mrs. Williams, surprised everyone wiT The fashionable hair bows They made and wore To school. In ad- diTion, They made posTers for The A.F.A. To use aT proTesTs. This group was mainly for fun. The Games Club spenT Theil Time each monTh learning how T play new games and enjoyin old ones like Monopoly an checkers. This was anoTher clu ThaT was jusT for fun. The sponsoi was Mrs. CarTer. BoTh The Girls' and Boys' AThleT- ic Clubs were headed by Coacl' Duvel and Coach Johnson. They learned new sporTs, played ol ones, and worked on improving Their physical abiliTies. On Top oi This They enjoyed a day aT PuTT- PuTT in Hoover playing miniaTure golf. All sTudenTs were given a chance To be involved in club: and To make conTribuTions To Their communiTy in one way oi anoTher. Everybody can look back and remember a greai year! - Janice Primn
