, , Sf lt'sfwt youdoar s your J jfs gg The key to Homecoming was not so much the actual activities but the people who participated in them, The preparation for the homecoming games and ceremonies was Spirit Week. It was filled with many relays and games such as, food relays in which many ofthe students had to feed each other baby food and give them bottles, de- signing T-shirts, listening to a skit performed and written by the cheerleaders, and the three chosen teachers, Mr. Donmoyer, Mrs. Laatsch, and Mr. Canevaro, all get- ting a pie in their face. The week was wrapped up with all three teams winning their games. The homecoming cere- monies involved each class stretching their spirit links across the court to gain points in the final contest. The highlight of the ceremo- nies was the crowning of the queen, senior Carmen Cleveland. This was Car- men's first year at SMCS. ln her speech, during the cha- pel at school Cbefore the ceremoniesy, Carmen said that she just couldn't be- lieve how nice everyone was to her. Junior Michelle Horn said, 'tShe always makes every- one feel so good when they're feeling down. Her best friend, Marette Jenkins Qalso a representative of the senior classy, spent most of her time in chapel thanking Carmen for being so nice to her when she first came here and far being such a great friend. Homecoming is always a special time, but what made Homecoming '89 so special was not what hap- pened but the people who made it happen. Brandi Dunlap.
