ThaT's because iT wasn'T. IT was a missions Trip To Guafemala. Eleven sTu- denfs including seniors Dana Harden, Shana Wise, STeven Bargainnier, and Jason Brough, juniors Mason Ellen- berger, Jon Jobes, and Kafe Phillips, sophomores Jennifer Guerrin, and Shelly Websfer, eighfh grader Heafher Le- veille, and college freshman Cindy Marshall, spenf Two weeks in ThaT Cenfral Ameri- can counfry serving The Lord. They Traveled To several villages and Towns where They performed skiTs, sang in bofh Spanish and English, and gave Their Tesfimonies. Planning and preparing for It's a large world but we 're R ACH This Trip was a loT of hard work. They spenf hours learning skifs and songs. Working a puppef is a loT harder Than iT Iooks, groaned Jon Jobes. Try holding your arm up in The air wifh a heavy puppei in hun- dred degree weafher while on your knees. lT's noT as much fun as iT sounds. During Their sTay, some preTTy funny Things hap- pened. One day in a small secluded village, Jon, Jason, Sfeven, and Mason were walking home from swim- ming, along wiTh some of The girls, when They heard screams and cries Thaf sounded like a pig. There was a village boy Trying To load a pig, bigger Than him- self, onfo a boaf. For some sfrange reason, The brave missionaries decided To help him. As They wallowed in The mud Trying To gef This pig To THM cooperaTe, They realized iT wasn'T going To work. They finally gave if up. WhaT is ThaT you're wearing? said Sfeven Bargainnier To Jon Jobes. lf smells Like RighT, Ode de Pig, groaned Mason Ellenberger. l Think every sTudenT should parficipafe in a mis- sions Trip. said sponsor Wal- Ter Leveillef' because if gives you a chance To ex- perience The need for mis- sionaries in oTher counTries. Over all, iT was an experi- ence They will never forgef. Mason Ellenberger summed up Their feelings by saying, i jusT can'T gef The picfure of Those people ouT of my mind. TempTaTion, Rick for was iT Mick'?5 Vigneulle Told The high school, is more Than a chance To do some- Thing wrong. lT's a chance To do someThing righT. lT was SpiriTual Emphasis Week, SepTember 6-9, a Time when almosT everyone goT caughT up in Their ChrisTian- iTy. The climax of The week came on Friday when The sTudenTs made new com- miTmenTs To God. Several, such as junior Jim Gray and senior Nicole Jahchan, were led To The Lord ThaT day. Soon The revival exciTe- menT died down, buT sever- al high-schoolers puT Biblical command inTo aciion as They wiinessed To The com- muniTy on SaTurday nighis. MW , n-fs w Junior Mason Ellenberger re- membered one of The Team's success sforles: 'TWhen we sTarTed wiTness- ing, There was This one girl named Tammi, who Erika was wiTnessing To. AT firsr she didn'T believe in God, heaven, hell, or anything, buT 115 minuTes laTer, she ac- cepTed Chrisr. Erika was jusT glowing! JusT like any oTher school, SMCS had posiTive and neg- aTive peer pressure flowing Through iTs halls. BuT for sen- ior Dana Harden, iT was en- couragemenT from her friends ThaT helped her grow closer To God. ConsTanT reminders of where l should be spiriTually keep me on Track, she said. Following rs not easy, lf our friends didn'T remind us To sTay Non Track, our chapel speakers did. BuT for many sTudenTs, being a ChrisTian was more Than sii- Ting Through a Bible class or a chapel service. lT involved going To prayer meeTings, Sunday school, and church, and Then living and applying whaT They learned. They did This Through Things like wiT- nessing, going an a mission- ary Trip To GuaTemala, or helping ouT a family in need.
