1 x 5 we :iv ln MEMUHIAM Homecoming Day, October 24, was dedicated to the boys who lost their lives in World War II. The ceremony included a gun salute, a prayer by an Army chaplain, and thc presentation of the plaque. Two of the honored guests were Mr. Aubrey Miller, a former coach, and Mr. J. M. Ward former principal. Guests were entertained by the school band on the campus. The occasion was in memory of the following who gave their lives: R. P. PUUTB LL TROPHY The football team of 1947 was rated County Champions by ballot of the foot- ball Coaches of the Jefferson County High Schools. This decision was made on the basis of 5024 playing ability, 25W sportsmanship, and 2594 general ability. This trophy is given each year by the Shades Valley Exchange Club to the team adjudged County Champions. It was presented to Shades Cahaba by Hueytown, who won it last year. HU EEUMINE The presentation of the Homecoming Queen, June Flenniken, and her attendants, Gretchen Grote and Peggy Sudduth, was a highlight of the afternoon program. A prize was given for the best exhibit depicting school spirit. Enjoying some refreshments were Katherine Bistrosch and Marcia Morgan. 'The main event was the Homecoming game played between Shades Cahaba and Northport. Shades Cahaba was the victor 14-7.
