The affirmative teazn, in most debates, was 111ade up of Ann Kontas and Gaylord Sheets, with lanice Ranney and Gayden Vfren upholding the negative. To start the season, the debators participated in an exhibition before the Hastings debate clinic, at l-lastings, Michigan. They opposed a negative team from Western State High School of Kalamazoo, on the question of the year: Resolved: That the federal Government should establish a system of complete 111edical care available to all citizens at public expense. A few weeks later, the squad traveled to Purdue University at Lafayette, Indiana. There, before about 900 lndiana debators at Purdue's debate clinic, the affirmative won an exhibition debate against New Trier High School of Winnetka, lllinois, the l945f46 state champions. For the second consecutive year Sextons debators were able to capture the 5-A league first place trophy with six victories out of a possible eight. At another important event Sexton won its third successive city championship by defeating Eastern twice, once on each side of the question. During the whole of the game the Quakers fought hard, but they were never able to cross the forty yard line and get deep into Red territory. Early in the game Sexton scored against her traditional rival. Easterns aerial attack com- pletely failed and at the gun, the Sexton High School Big Reds became City, Five-A League, and Undeteated State Champs. During the season the prowess ot many of SeXton's line players carrie to light. A few oi these players were Bob Grant, the tall right end whom Sexton lost last lanuary, Dave Crego, a truly fine player who, with Grant, was Co- Captain. Other fine athletes were Roger Willson, Harold Pederson, lim Doth- sulc, Bob Sherry, and Don Starlcweather. There were many more who did much to give Sexton her excellent record. Morale was high during the entire season.
