culture, vocabulary and grammar preoccupied the french i and ii students. although these areas are also covered in french iii and iv, literature is stressed the most. in third year french, victor hugo's novel of world-wide reknown, Q miserables is read in addition to topaze by pagnol. pecheur d'islande is studied by french iv students, followed by an extensive unit on advanced composition. as in french iii, fourth year french students strive to improve their speaking and listening abilities by learning dialogues and poems. mythology and stories about roman life add to the latin i curriculum, along with study in basic grammar and vocabulary. caesar's commentaries on the gallic wars, play a major part in the second year latin course. french pupils create skits,
