---.f Operations Department Quite literally, the personnel and eauipment in this department are what allow SELLERS to operate, It is only through Operations Department that SELLERS can com- municate, collect, evaluate and transmit information. Those are tasks ofsuch critical importance that the ship could not sail without their being accomplished with a reliability approaching perfection. During the cruise, Lieutenant Commander J.T. McComb commanded the three divisions which comprise Opera- tions: OC, OIXOW, and OE. OC division, led by Ensign R. Robinette. does the actual communicating for SELLERS. The division is comprised of Rlvt's Cradiomeny and Slvt's Csignalmenp The Rlvts ensure that SELLERS can communicate not only with ships a few miles distant, but also with military command centers thousands of miles away. Rlvl's prepare and process the hundreds of radio messages that SELLERS routinely sends and receives each month. SM's utilize the traditional but no less important art of visual signalling. They perform the flag hoist Cdisplaying universally understood flags and pen. nantsp, flashing-light morse code, and semaphore gon intricate system of arm and hand signals that can also be accomplished at night with the aid of hand-held lightsj The nerve center of the modern warship is the Combat information Center CCICJ, the province of OIXOW division, led by LT. Without the troubleshooting and repair expertise of OE division, Operations Department wouldn't have operated for long during the cruise.
